FTP versus SFTP

Use SFTP instead of plain FTP wherever possible — it sends username, password and files encrypted, while classic FTP does so unencrypted.

• SFTP — port 22 (the same port as SSH).
• FTP — port 21 (only use if SFTP isn't available).

Recommended free clients: FileZilla (Windows/macOS/Linux) or Cyberduck (macOS/Windows). Enter the hostname, username and password, choose the right port number, and connect.
